5 Weird Things

I was tagged by Virginia Gal to do the 5 Weird Things Meme. So here goes, 5 weird things about me:

ONE: I lived in the same house for the first 28 years of my life (excluding college dorms and an on-campus apartment). Since the age of 28 (no, I won’t say how long ago that was), I’ve moved 6 times.

TWO: I used to stay up late on weeknights to watch
2 Stupid Dogs.

THREE: My first car was a Plymouth Cricket. Hey, it was free. It also broke down the first time I tried to drive it more than 5 miles. I didn’t keep it very long. The Cricket was manufactured in the UK, where it was sold as the Hillman Avenger. For those of you who like Britcoms, the car rusting in Onslow’s driveway (his dog lives in it) in Keeping Up Appearances is a Hillman Avenger.

FOUR: I once jumped 25 feet from a rock into the Susquehanna River. I was the coward in the group; everyone else jumped (or dove) from, “Old 50 Foot.” This was a significant event for me because I am TERRIFIED of heights. It was also a near death experience because the current was strong and I had a very hard time climbing back onto the slippery rocks of the island. A friend helped, saving my life. OK, I exaggerated. But not by much.

FIVE: I hate the feel of most synthetic fabrics, and I especially hate nylon jackets (the fabric used for years in windbreakers and in those “parachute fabric” warm up suits). The noise they make is like nails on a blackboard to me, and the way they feel makes my skin crawl. I couldn’t stand to wear them for many years. I can tolerate them now, but I still don’t like them.

So that's it, 5 Weird Things. I won't tag anyone, do it if you wanna.

That car story is great ... at least you did not keep the mad-dog in the car to scare your uppity relations ;)

I agree with the nylon windbreaker sound ... only thing that comes close is the Tic Tacs in a pocket sound...

Pax-
Love that Britcom.

And that tic tacs sound! You're right, it's awful. Mom always has them everywhere - in her purse, in her pockets. And Mr. M keeps them in both cars and in his briefcase, though not in his pockets.

I love Keeping up Appearances, its funny to know what that car is - it's just such a part of the show, you don't even think about it.
28 years is fine - hey if you were Indian it would be unheard of for you to move out till marriage, no matter the age.

I was more impressed with all your moving than the fact that you remained in the one house for 28 years. Though, that's pretty amazing too!

Love the car. First car stories are always so entertaining.

The fabric you mention doesn't bug me too much but I can't get anywhere NEAR Velvet. EW. I cringe just thinking about it. I think it looks lovely, but I just cannot touch it.

Virginia Gal-
I came pretty close. I married my husband about a year after I moved out of my Mom's house.

Weary Hag-
Funny how we react to different fabrics. One of my friends and I agree that we all fall onto the Autism spectrum to some degree, no matter how small, and we all have certain sensory issues.
